Simple Gospel/Christ Crucified
What does this mean?
By His Death He granted us life. WE ARE REDEEMED AND RECEIVE NEW JOY AND POWER IN THIS LIFE AS WELL AS THE ETERNAL LIFE TO COME.
“For I determined to know nothing among you, except Christ, and Him Crucified.” 1 Corinthians 2:2
In a few short words, Apostle Paul gave the foundational truths contained in the glorious, saving gospel of God - CHRIST AND HIM CRUCIFIED.
Paul was a brilliant man, filled with worldly knowledge, and yet as He grew in grace, Paul determined to know nothing other than Christ and Him crucified.
“Him Crucified” refers to the finished Work of the Lord at Calvary.
Part of that work was the ATONEMENT of our sins, where sin and guilt was removed from our account forever - because Christ is the Lamb of God, sent by the Father to take away the sins of the world.
But He was also the propitiation (reconcilement) for our sin, for by being born, He became our kinsman-Redeemer. Whose sacrificial death and glorious resurrection paid the price of our sin with His own death.
Christ’s death ended Sacrificial Law- the Law of Moses. (The law of commandments contained in ordinances) Ephesians 2:15
Yes, the Messiah was the propitiation for our sins - turning the wrath of God, which we all justly deserve, away from us and upon Himself, so that by faith in Him we might be made in the righteousness of Almighty to obedience.
His death broke down the barrier between us and the Father, so that we can REPENT and be grafted back into the tree of Israel.
“For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.” Ephesians 2:14-18
Christ preached REPENTANCE.
Repent from what? Sin
What is sin? “Whosoever committeth sin transgresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” 1 John 3:4
What law? The commandments of the Covenants of Promise.
But wait a minute!
Didn’t Christ fulfill the law? Christ fulfilled sacrificial law. The law of sin and death.
We can now REPENT and be saved. Law of liberty. Before His sacrifice we were doomed.
“That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:” Ephesians 2:12-13
We now wait, in our engagement period to the Messiah, for His return and for the wedding banquet, and the New Covenant to be written on our hearts.
We must always remember His love and sacrifice with gratitude. Have a humble and contrite heart and faithfully follow His example in remembrance:
“He himself bore our sins, in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness, by his wounds you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2:24
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20
“For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin, might be done away with that we should no longer be slaves to sin.” Romans 6:5-6
“Surely he has borne our grief and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and by his stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:4-5
(Isaiah 53:4-5 is an Old Testament prophecy fulfilled by the Messiah. This predicted the suffering servant, Christ, and his suffering for all the sins of the world so that we may be saved.)
“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18
“Fixing our eyes on Messiah, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Almighty.” Hebrews 12:2
A Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for my salvation and my redemption and that I am fully reconciled to You through the blood of Your Son. Thank You that your Son is the propitiation for my sins and that He was willing to identify with my sinfulness so that I may be eternally identified with His death and wonderful resurrected life - which I have received by grace through faith in His sacrificial work on Calvary's cross - praise His holy name. I pray that in the days ahead I set all else aside, except Your Son, and Him crucified, in HIS name I pray,
AMEN AND HALLELUYAH!
