What is FAITH?
Faith is a gift, not the result of human efforts or achievement. The biblical definition of faith reaches beyond merely believing in something. Faith involves abandoning all reliance on human efforts and placing total dependence upon Yahuah’s (God’s) character, His actions, and His promises as revealed in His Word. It is complete trust, assurance, and confidence in Yahuah that He is sovereign over everything and everyone. It is not knowing how things will work out and still fully trusting in Him and Him alone for the solution, without manipulation or intervening with our own efforts. The world encourages and rewards independence – the “I can do it all” attitude. Yet our Father longs for complete dependence on Him. As Ephesians 2:8 says, we are saved by grace through faith, not of ourselves. Yahuah initiates the relationship between Him and us by revealing Himself to us (Rom 1:19-20) and lovingly calls us to Him (2 Tim 1:9).
Jeremiah 32:27 says “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh, is there anything too difficult for Me?” and Matthew 17:20 echoes this idea by saying that if we have faith the size of a even a tiny mustard seed, nothing will be impossible for any of us.
Additionally, Yahusha (Jesus) is the author and finisher of our faith, Hebrews 12:2. He once marveled at the faith He found in the Centurion man, a non-believer who is probably the last person anyone would have expected to have faith in the Most High or the Messiah. And it’s the only instance that the gospels record such a response from Yahusha (Matthew 8:5-13; Luke 7:1-10). Who was this man of great faith, a rabbi? a disciple? no, a Roman soldier.
Our faith is what will carry us through difficult times, trusting Him and His promises. Suffering and trials come into our lives to test our faith. Are we going to crumble or stand firm in our faith? The Father wants to see our faith, even to the point of making us wait at times, because the testing of our faith produces perseverance (James 1:2-3).
As we grow in faith, His wants become our wants, His will becomes our will, and His ways become our ways. There is a total trust and confidence that everything will work out for our good and His glory in the long run (even if the short term seems unsettled). The worry about what will happen next or what will happen tomorrow subsides. We are able to focus fully on what He is calling us to do for Him and for His Kingdom all while having unwavering confidence and trust (faith) that He who initiates will sustain and bring to completion His plans for all of His children. And NOTHING is able to stop that.
